Wolves take 2-0 series lead on Winterhawks
The Ripley Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 series lead over the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks with 7-1 and 4-3 wins over the weekend.
On Friday night, the Wolves went down early in the game but scored seven unanswered goals on their way to a 7-1 victory in Game 1.
Pat Looby led the way with two goals, while Kaden Hoggarth, Brett Catto, Dan Nicoloff, Gerrit Satosek and Derek Skinner added singles.
Assists went to Ethan Skinner (2), Todd Hellyer (2), Catto (2), Drew Davidson, Logan Swanton, Jarred Colling, Tyler McCarthy, Cody Britton, Nicoloff, and Hoggarth.
Jason Hamilton stopped 31 of 32 shots for the victory in the Wolves net.
On Sunday afternoon, the Wolves travelled to Port Elgin for Game 2 and, though it took a third period comeback, skated away with a 4-3 victory to take a 2-0 series lead.
Goals were scored by Nicoloff, Satosek, E. Skinner and Britton, while assists went to Dylan Sayle, D. Skinner, Hoggarth, and Catto.
Hamilton once again got the win in the Wolves net, stopping 38 of 41 shots.
The Wolves look to put a stanglehold on the series at home on Friday night, March 7, at 8:30 p.m. Game 4 will be Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Port Elgin.
