Wolves fall twice in OT as regular season ends
A perfect Ripley Wolves regular season was not to be as they fell twice in overtime on the weekend.
On Friday night in Palmerston, Cody Britton scored his second of the night with just nine seconds left in the third period to force overtime but they couldn't find one more goal and lost 7-6.
Other goals were scored by Garrett Meurs (2), Kaden Hoggarth and Dawson Fahrer. Assists went to Ethan Skinner (2), Tyler McCarthy (2), Meurs (2), Todd Hellyer (2), Evan Visser and Mike Howes.
Jason Hamilton took the OT loss in the Wolves net.
The Wolves wrapped up their regular season at home on Saturday night against the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, and suffered another overtime loss, this time by a 5-4 score.
The Hawks led 4-1 after one period, but Ripley clawed their way back to force overtime on goals by Taylor Woolcott, Drew Davidson, Meurs and Visser. Assists went to Rob White, Gerrit Satosek, Howes, Davidson, Britton, Fahrer, Hellyer and Skinner.
Garrett Golley and Jason Hamilton split the duties in the Wolves net.
The Wolves finish the regular season with an 18-0-2 record and had previously clinched first overall in the standings. They'll have this weekend off while the regular season wraps up and will start their first round playoff series in the weekend of Feb. 7, with their opponent still to be determined.
The entire Ripley Wolves organization would also like to pass on our deepest condolences to families of Quinn Martyn, 20, who died tragically on Friday, and long-time supporter Bob Taylor, who passed away on the weekend. The Wolves family and our community mourns along with you all.
