Wolves take 1-0 series lead with 3-1 win
The Ripley Wolves drew first blood against their Bruce County rivals from Saugeen Shores, with a 3-1 win in Game 1 of the WOAA Sr. AA semi-final.
The league's second- and third-best regular season teams played a fast-paced, spirited contest that sets up what looks like it'll be a long and exciting series.
Ryan Shaw gave the Wolves the lead late in the first period from Ethan Skinner and Cody Britton, while the Winterhawks scored early in the second to tie it up.
It stayed deadlocked until Shaw potted his second of the night on the powerplay early in the third period, giving the Wolves a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Assists on Shaw's goal went to Britton and Skinner.
Tyler McCarthy added an unassisted empty netter to seal the Game 1 victory.
Jason Hamilton was lights out in the Wolves net, making 32 saves on his way to the win.
Game 2 goes tonight, Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Plex in Port Elgin. The puck drops at 9 p.m.
