Wolves romp over Shelburne

The Ripley Wolves secured a two-win weekend with a 9-4 thumping of Shelburne at home on Saturday night.

They’re now 8-1 on the season and sit atop the WOAA Senior A League standings.

The Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, and the high-scoring period ended in a 4-2 lead for the Wolves. First period goals were scored by Garrett Meurs, from Cody Britton and Brett Catto; Meurs again seven minutes later, from Keaton Willis and Britton; Jarred Colling, from Dylan Sayle and Gerrit Satosek; and Britton, from Blake Nichol and Catto.

Shelburne pulled to within one in the second before the Wolves turned it into high gear, scoring four unanswered goals in the latter part of the second and first half of the third. Goals were scored by Nick Seiler, from Tyler McCarthy and Dan Nicoloff; Shawn Stewart, from Ben Scheel and Rob White; Paul Stewart, from Scheel and his brother Shawn; and Scheel, from Sayle. Tyson Soers capped the Wolves offensive outburst late in the third, from Seiler and Pat Looby.

Kurt Edwards got the win in the Wolves net.

The Wolves spend the next two weekends on the road. On Saturday, Nov. 17, they’re in Seaforth to face the Huron East Centenaires at 7:30 p.m., and then they travel to Shelburne on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m. On Friday, Nov. 30, the Wolves head to Lucknow to face their cross-township rivals, with an 8:30 p.m. puck drop.

They return home on Saturday, Dec. 1, when they host Petrolia at 7 p.m. It’s Tyke Night, and is sponsored by Ripley Variety.
