Win over Petrolia moves Wolves back into first

The Ripley Wolves scored two in the third to defeat Petrolia 3-1 on Friday night, leapfrogging their opponent for first place in the league in the process.

The Wolves, who now have a 6-1 record and 12 points, remain a point up on the Squires (5-2-1) and two up on Clinton (5-1), as the season begins its second month.

Petrolia led 1-0 after one, but Ripley tied it in the second when Jarred Colling scored, from Ben Scheel and Shawn Stewart. Tyler McCarthy scored the eventual game winner five minutes into the third, from Dylan Sayle and Nick Seiler, while Garrett Meurs sealed it with an unassisted goal with one minute left.

Ryan MacDonald was got the win between the pipes for the Wolves.

Ripley has the rest of the weekend off and will travel to Tavistock on Friday, Nov. 9, for an 8:30 p.m. start. They will then host Shelburne on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. It’s Minor Hockey Night, so youth who wear their team’s jersey get in free! Game sponsor is Current Electric.

Friday, Nov. 9, is also the second Quiz Night of the season. It will be held at 8 p.m. at the Ripley Curling Club, with guest host Todd Thompson. This BYOB event is a fun night with friends, so gather your ‘smartest’ pals and come test your knowledge! Teams can consists of up to eight people ($20 per player), and we will find teams for individuals. The winning team gets half the proceeds. There is also one table of eight left for our second annual Yuk Yuks and Christmas Dinner, being held at the arena on Friday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 each ($600/table) and include wine, a full Christmas dinner catered by Burke’s, and three Yuk Yuks comedians.
