Wolves need shootout to beat Elora

Posted: January 20, 2018 in News and notes

It was a wild night in Elora last night, with the Wolves and the Rocks going all the way to the 11th round of the shootout before Ripley nabbed the extra point.

And a huge point it was, as it keeps the Wolves within striking distance of the Durham Thundercats, who also won Friday night, for second place overall in the league. The Wolves can pull even with the Cats with a win in regulation tonight, at 7 p.m., in Ripley. If the Wolves can win without needing overtime tonight, they’d need just one point next weekend in the regular season finale against Lucknow to claim second spot, as Durham finishes their season tonight in Ripley.

In Elora it was a sniper’s dream and a goalie’s nightmare, and the teams headed to overtime tied 7-7. The extra period solved nothing – although it featured a huge penalty kill by the Wolves – and it went to a shootout, where it took 11 shooters before Ripley was declared the winner.

Game stats are not yet available.

That sets up tonight’s huge game against Durham tonight in Ripley at 7 p.m. The game is sponsored by The Kincardine News and the Amberley General Store.
