Wolves win two over holidays

Posted: December 30, 2017 in News and notes

The Ripley Wolves took over second overall in the Senior A league with two wins over the holidays. They now lead the Tillsonburg Thunder by one point as the league enters the final month of the season.

The Wolves defeated Lucknow 4-0 on Dec. 23, and managed to stave off a Saugeen Shores third period comeback attempt to win 5-4 on Dec. 29.

Against Lucknow, Tyson Soers led the way with two goals while Dan Nicoloff and Garrett Satosek had singles. Assists went to Soers, Ryan Dudgeon (2), Paul Stewart and goalie Kurt Edwards, who also recorded a 31-save shutout.

In Port Elgin, the Wolves stormed out of the gate with four unanswered goals before the Winterhawks managed one at the end of the second period. Brett Catto, Dylan Sayle, Nick Seiler, Dudgeon gave Edwards a four-goal cushion, while Shawn Stewart scored early in the third to give the Wolves a 5-2 lead.

Assists went to Cody Britton, Brent Walton (2), Shawn Stewart, Tyler de Vos, Soers, Nicoloff, and Patrick Looby.

Penalty trouble in the last 10 minutes of the game put Ripley on their heels, and allowed the Hawks to net two powerplay goals to pull within one. Edwards shut the door from there and made 30 saves for the victory.

The Wolves host Shelburne on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. It’s Minor Hockey Night, so any young fan wearing their jersey get in free! The game is sponsored by DG MacDonald and Son and the Ripley Legion Branch #440.

The Wolves then welcome Elora on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 4:30 p.m. It’s Tyke Day, so come cheer on our future Wolves in between periods. Sponsor is West Shore Stone & Brick.
