Wolves beat Saugeen Shores 2-1

The Ripley Wolves have started their season with a win.

A late powerplay goal by Cody Britton gave the Ripley Wolves a 2-1 victory over the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks on Saturday night in a satellite game during Hockey Day in Kincardine.

Pat Weijak got his sophomore season off to a good start with the Wolves’ first goal of the season midway through the first, assisted by newcomer Nick Seiler and veteran Tyler McCarthy.

It was a back-and-forth affair from there are, before Britton scored the game winner with just 22 seconds left on the clock, from Brett Catto and Seiler.

Jason Hamilton, the Wolves’ new goalie who suited up for the now-defunct Mapleton-Minto 81’s last season and was signed by Ripley just before the season started, lived up to his reputation as one of the league’s top netminders with 43 saves in the Wolves win.

The Wolves have this weekend off and then head to Clinton on Friday, Oct. 20, at 8:30 p.m., before holding their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. against Huron East.

This Friday, Oct. 13, is also the first of the Wolves’ monthly Quiz Nights, where teams of up to eight will answer trivia questions as they vie for half of the proceeds. The event, which will be held the second Friday of each month at the Ripley Curling Club, costs $20 per player and it is an age of majority evening. Bring your own refreshments.

Registration begins at 7:30 p.m., and the trivia night starts at 8. Drop-ins are welcome if you don’t have enough for your own team!
