Wolves win home opener 3-2

The Ripley Wolves opened their 2015/16 season with a spirited 3-2 win over the Lucknow Lancers on Saturday night.

The new-look Wolves embarked on their first season in a decade without offensive leaders Travis Vangaver, Mark Stanley and Nick Locking, who all retired this off-season. That didn’t stop the Wolves from playing a sound all-around game and scoring all their goals at even strength, while only being scored upon while shorthanded.

Goals were scored by Jeremy McQuillin, newcomer (but a league-veteran with the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks) Ryan Dudgeon and Cody Britton. Assists went to Tyson Soers, Dustin Catto, Drew Davidson, Tyler McCarthy (2), and Britton.

Rookie Mitch Campbell, who graduated from the Jr. C Bulldogs last year, stopped 42 shots for the Wolves
to get the win in his league debut. Scoring for Lucknow was Scott Miller and Chad Simpson, with assists to Ean Moffat, Rick Andrew, Brett Binning and Chase Chapman.

The Wolves hit the road for the next few weeks with games in Shallow Lake and Shelburne on Oct. 16 and
17, Saugeen Shores on Oct. 23 (8:30 p.m.) and Mapleton-Minto (in Drayton) on Oct. 30. They return home on Friday, Nov. 6, at 8:30 p.m. vs Durham.

The Wolves will also hold the second annual Howling Halloween Dance at the arena on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 9 p.m., featuring The Mudmen. These Scottish rockers blew everyone away last year, and are sure to do the same again this Halloween.

Tickets are $20 and available at Ripley Variety and the Arena. Prizes for best costume.
