Game 1 of the Playoffs – Wolves down

The Ripley Wolves began their best of seven series against the Saugeen Winterhawks with Game 1 in Port Elgin Friday Feb. 7.  The Wolves fought hard but came up short with a loss of 5 – 2.  The Wolves were strong on the ice with Edwards in net.  The first period was scoreless with 4:29 left on the clock when Saugeen’s Chris King slid one past Edwards.  The Wolves were determined and after numerous chances  Nic Locking tied the game with 4:31 left in the second, assists going to Jeremy McQuillin and Travis Van Gaver. Tied going into the third, the game changed midway through the period with Saugeen scoring 3 goals on the Wolves making them trail 4-1.  The Wolves did not quit and once again Locking came through scoring with 1:28 left in the third, assisted by VanGaver and McQuillin.  The Wolves fought hard for that 3rd goal but Saugeen came out with the puck and scored on the empty net making it 5-2.  Edwards stopped 33 shots compared to Saugeen’s Roulston 29 shots.

The Wolves play Game 2 tonight, Sat. Feb. 8 at 9:00 in Ripley and Game 3 Sun. Feb. 9 in Ripley at 3:30.
