Wolves lose 11-4 to Saugeen Shores Winterhawks

The RIpley Wolves had a difficult night on Saturday while facing the three-time defending champion Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, falling 11-4.

The Wolves opened the scoring on a goal from Kyle Wreford, with assists going to Nick Locking and Jeremy McQuillin. Port Elgin promptly responded with three goals over the next four minutes, before Jarred Colling scored from Shawn Stewart and Paul Stewart.

The Wolves pulled to within one five minutes into the third period when P. Stewart scored from Corey McCrae and Colling, but Port Elgin pulled away with another three goals over a four-minute span to take a 7-3 lead.

Locking scored the Wolves final goal, from Josh MacDonald, but the Hawks stretched their lead again before the second period was done. The third was all Winterhawks, as the perennial champs scored four in the third to finish the game 11-4.

Kurt Edwards stopped 28 shots in the loss.

The Wolves host Elora on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. in a game sponsored by the Power Workers’ Union and Farmer’s Diner and Pizzeria. It’s the Team Jersey Challenge, so kids can wear their team’s jersey for prizes!
