Wolves pick up four of six points over two weekends

Firstly, we apologize for the lack of action here over the past couple of weeks, but more importantly, the Ripley Wolves are beginning to hit their stride with three strong games over the past two weekends.

On Nov. 15, the Wolves travelled to Durham and were just seconds from taking two points from the ThunderCats, who scored with 34 seconds left in the third period to tie it at 2-2, and eventually taking the extra point in a shootout.

Scorers for the Wolves were Nick Locking and Mark Stanley (powerplay), with assists going to Jeremy McQuillin, Paul Stewart and Jarred Colling.

Kurt Edwards made 30 saves for the win.

The next night, Ripley hosted their rivals from Lucknow and came away with a hard-fought 5-3 victory in a game sponsored by KNJ Farms and Presto Crest. The game marked the return of Tom Church to Ripley’s net, and he stopped 22 shots in the win.

Ripley goals were scored by Locking, Kyle Gallant, Brian Stanley, McQuillin and Nathan Gavey. Assists went to B. Stanley, Tim Dwinnell (2), M. Stanley, Gavey, Corey McCrae and Locking (2).

On Friday night, the Wolves took a short bench to Elora and played perhaps their best team game of the year, taking the league leaders to overtime and securing a big point in the 4-3 loss. Coach Brent Armstrong said the guys put in a huge effort, blocking shots, getting in passing lanes and using their youth and speed to take the play to the Rocks.

Ripley scorers were Locking, Stewart and Dwinnell. Assists went to M. Stanley, Chad Colling, J. Colling and Alex MacLeod.

The Wolves travel to Shelburne on Saturday night for an 8 p.m. start, and then play a rare Sunday afternoon home game the following day, with puck drop vs Mapleton-Minto (Palmerston) at 3 p.m. Kids can take part in the Colouring Contest and will receive free admission if they bring their coloured Wolf (which was sent home from Ripley-Huron Community School this week) to the game with them!

Game sponsor is Kempton Construction.
