Generally, a powerplay is a great opportunity to punish the opposing team for playing outside the rules.
Unfortunately, during the Wolves’ 5-2 loss to the Elora Rocks on Saturday night, playing with the man advantage was a disadvantage for the home squad. The Wolves gave up three shorthanded goals (two on the same penalty late in the first period), and two even-strength goals in the second period to go down 5-0 after two.
The third period was much better for the Wolves though, as they played much stronger and scored their only two goals to leave an oddity of a game with some confidence heading into this two-game weekend.
Goal scorers for the Wolves were Jeremy McQuillin, on the powerplay, from Nick Locking, and Tim Dwinnell, from McQuillin and Locking.
Kurt Edwards made 39 saves in Ripley’s net.
The Wolves travel to Durham on Friday night for an 8:30 start, and then host the rival Lucknow Lancers on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Game sponsors are KNJ Farms and Presto Crest. It’s also Tyke Night, so be sure to come out and cheer on the future Wolves as they show off their skills between periods!
