Wolves fall 7-3 to Shallow Lake in season opener

Posted: October 6, 2013 in News and notes

The Ripley Wolves had a hard time shaking off the rust in their season opener, falling 7-3 to the Shallow Lake Crushers on Saturday night.

Scoring for Ripley was Travis VanGaver (2) and Jared Colling, who was playing his first game of Senior A hockey after a successful Junior C career with the Kincardine Bulldogs. Assists went to Kyle Heffernan (2), Jeremy McQuillin, Nick Locking, Josh MacDonald and Brian Stanley.

Kurt Edwards was in the Wolves net and faced 40 shots, while the Wolves could only muster 19.

There has been some turnover to the Wolves line-up this year due to retirements, work commitments and travel, and the team welcomed new faces on Saturday night. Rookies include Colling, MacDonald, Zac McIntosh, David Jones, Shawn Stewart and Keegan Woodman. Brock Lowry and Kyle Heffernan have also returned to the Wolves after a couple of season hiatus.

The Wolves, who have yet to practice in their home rink because the ice isn’t ready after last weekend’s Fall Fair, will look to bounce back in their home opener on Friday, Oct. 11, at 8:30 p.m. vs the Shelburne Muskies.

Season tickets will be available at the door for the Wolves 12 home games this season. Cost is $50, a $12 savings off regular entry.

Also, be sure to listen to 95.5 myFM on Mondays for the new ‘Ripley Wolves report,’ which is sponsored by Hurontel. Our thanks to them and the folks at 95.5!
