Wolves come from behind to beat Shallow Lake

Posted: November 24, 2012 in News and notes

The Ripley Wolves won their third straight game on Friday night in Shallow Lake.

The Wolves fell behind early, giving up two goals in the first period, but they tied things up in the second with goals from Ryan Armstrong and Mark Stanley. Assists went to Jeremy McQuillin and Nathan Gavey on Armstrong’s goal, and Travis VanGaver and Brian Stanley.

Mark’s goal tied the game with just two seconds left in the second period, sending the Wolves to the room on a high.

That momentum carried over into the third, when Mark scored seconds into the period to give the Wolves a lead that would last less than 30 seconds, when Shallow Lake slipped one past goalie Kurt Edwards, who stopped 26 shots on the night.

The Wolves continued to battle the tough Shallow Lake team and capitalized on a powerplay with 12 minutes remaining in the game, when Nick Locking scored from VanGaver.

Paul Stewart then sealed the Wolves win with a shorthanded, unassisted goal with 2:34 left on the clock.

The Wolves have the rest of the weekend off, and then travel to Elora next Friday night, and then host the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Ripley, at 7:30 p.m. The game is sponsored by Kempton Construction.
