Wolves suffer second loss in a row

That was a tough weekend.

The Ripley Wolves were routed for the second night in a row, falling 9-2 to the Elora Rocks on Saturday night, in front of a big crowd at the Ripley Arena. The loss came on the heels of an 8-2 thumping on Friday night in Shelburne.

The Wolves, who looked sluggish after having last weekend off after an impressive 4-0 start to the season, fell behind early – Elora scored twice in the first seven minutes and led 3-0 after one period.

The Rocks scored twice more early in the second – one shorthanded – to lead 5-0 before the Wolves would get on the board with a shortie of their own. Travis VanGaver made a beautiful move to the middle of the ice on the Rocks defenceman and sent the puck to Tyler deVos at the side of the net. It appeared deVos tapped in an easy one, but the ref gave it to VanGaver with deVos getting the assist.

The shorthanded marker didn’t provide much of a lift though, as the Rocks added two more in the last five minutes of the second to put an end to any thoughts of a rally.

VanGaver added his second of the night on the powerplay in the third, from Jeremy McQuillin and deVos.

Tom Church started in the Wolves net and was pulled early in the second, with Kurt Edwards taking his place between the pipes.

The Wolves have next weekend off before hosting their cross-township rivals from Lucknow on Friday, Nov. 16, at 8:30 p.m. It’s Senior’s Night and it’s sponsored by Pollock Electric. They welcome Mapleton-Minto (Palmerston) on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. Don’t miss this game, as it’s Tyke Night and the future Wolves will play a game between periods. Tyke Night is sponsored by Presto Crest.
