Wolves look to rebound after 8-2 loss to Shelburne

The Ripley Wolves suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night, after suffering an 8-2 thumping at the hands of the Shelburne Muskies.

In their first game against Shelburne since last season’s hard-fought playoff series, which the Wolves lost in overtime of Game 6, the Wolves couldn’t get out of the gate strongly and were down 3-0 after the first period and 5-1 after two.

Both the Wolves goals came on the powerplay, with brothers Nathan and Darren Gavey each finding the net. Assists went to Travis VanGaver and Jeremy McQuillin (2).

Kurt Edwards was busy in the Wolves net all night and was relieved in the third by Tom Church.

The league’s other undefeated team, the Durham ThunderCats, also lost last night, leaving Ripley tied at the top of the league standings with eight points.

Ripley looks to rebound tonight at home against Elora. Game time is 7:30 p.m. It’s Minor Hockey Night, so any kids wearing their hockey jersey get in free.

The game is sponsored by the Ripley Legion.
