Two teams were tied at -11 and a chip-off was needed to declare a winner at the Ripley Wolves annual golf tournament, held Sept. 15. Over 60 golfers took part in the event.

The skies cleared just in time for the Ripley Wolves annual golf tournament, on Sept. 15 at Ainsdale Golf Course.

It took a chip-off from 100 yards, but the winning team of Travis Vangaver, Kyle Wreford, Corey McCrae and Tim Dwinnell finished at -11.

The big winners of the day were all 64 golfers, who were treated to an amazing prize table thanks to our great sponsors. Whether during the season or at special events such as this, our sponsors always step up to help out the team, and we can’t thank them enough.

Mark Petter blocks a shot by Krista Fry in the ‘A’ final of the inaugural Ripley Wolves Indoor Beach Volleyball tournament, held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Josh Howald/The Independent

Players for the Ripley Wolves held the inaugural Ripley Wolves Indoor Beach Volleyball tournament, held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

The weekend of volleyball was a great success, with 20 teams competing for bragging rights in five divisions. With teams guaranteed six games – and playing eight if they reached a final – there was no shortage of volleyball (and beer garden!) action for participants.

The Wolves thank all the teams who made the tournament such a success, the volunteers who helped with set-up, bartending and tear-down, Enbridge for their sponsorship, and Tom and Pauline from Kempton Construction for their continuing support of the Ripley Wolves. Without all of these people, this weekend would not have been possible!

The Wolves have now traded their sandals for skates and are practicing at rinks across the area. The regular season opens Oct. 5 in Shallow Lake, with the home opener going Oct. 12 against those same Crushers.

The Hard Knock Spikes went undefeated and won the ‘A’ division. Team members are (back left) Mark Petter, Jeff Thompson, Steve Stepaniak and Scott MacSween. Front left: Erin Thompson, Megan Petter and Carmen Aston. Missing is Kathleen Scott. Josh Howald/The Independent
